Multiple Brush Fires Around the Area This Weekend
Firefighters from around the area battled a large brush fire in Elkhorn on Sunday. Elkhorn Fire Chief Rod Smith talked with us about the blaze, describing the blaze as a controlled swamp burn that got out of control. Chief Smith said the fire spread to more than 100 acres and took more than 4 hours to put out, and apparatus from Walworth, Rock, Waukesha and Racine counties were on scene to battle the blaze. UTVs and ATVs were used to get personnel closer to the blaze, and there wasn’t an onslaught of trucks on scene, but rather smaller apparatus.
In addition to this blaze, firefighters also battled a brush fire in Lake Geneva on Saturday. The Lake Geneva Fire Department says multiple departments battled a blaze on the northwest side, and around 4:45 PM Saturday the department said that the blaze was contained.
