Lake Mills School Board Discusses COVID-19, Funding During Monday Night Meeting

On Monday night, the Lake Mills School Board met, where they heard early reports from the school year. The elementary school principal said they were very thankful, as the district had hired an extra kindergarten and second grade teacher. This dropped the total number of kids per class from 25-26 to closer to 20. The board also discussed their Safe Return To In-Person Instruction plan and listened to the status of their SR2 and SR3 funds. The SR3 funds have less flexibility and 20% must be spent on research based instruction. The SR2 funds need to be spent before SR3.

Finally, the district heard a plan to bring in additional nursing staff from the local healthcare provider on a part-time basis and announced that the district can offer times and dates for COVID Testing. The debate over the Safe Return plan shifted to athletics, with the primary debate being that students should wear masks, but athletes can have the choice. This is from a recommendation from the health department. They approved the Safe return plan but will wait for more information on athletics. A special meeting has also been scheduled for October 25 to discuss the tax levy.
