Lake Geneva Approves Room Tax Increase
In a 4-3 vote, the room tax in Lake Geneva has been raised. The LGRN reports that the Lake Geneva City Council agreed to increase the room tax from 5% to 8%. The rate goes into effect on June 1 and will affect Lake Geneva’s hotels, motels and rental properties. The increase will generate in the vicinity of 400,000 dollars a year from overnight guests, and could increase the city’s annual revenue to in excess of $1 million from $800,000. Lake Geneva becomes the third community in Walworth County with an 8% room tax, joining both the City and Town of Delavan. Fontana, Village of Walworth and Linn remain at a 5% room tax, while the Town of Geneva has a 6$ room tax.
