According to a press release from the Janesville Fire Department, yesterday shortly before 3 p.m. they responded to a two story residence on Locust Ave. Upon arrival smoke was coming out of the first story, and a female was believed to still be on the second floor. The initial arriving units were able to advance a hoseline to the first floor and quickly extinguish the fire, while a second crew simultaneously proceeded to the second story and assisted the occupant in evacuating the residence. Two pets, a cat and a rabbit were located and removed from the residence. The fire appears to be accidental in nature and may have possibly been caused by a candle that was burning in the area of the kitchen on the first floor of the residence. The fire was confined to the kitchen area of the residence, with heat and smoke damage throughout the interior of the residence. The amount of damages is estimated to be about $50 thousand. No injuries were reported, the two adult occupants were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
