Irvin L. Young Memorial Library in Whitewater to Have Martin Luther King Jr. Day Off.

At Thursday night’s Whitewater Common Council Meeting, Library Director Stacey Lunsford from the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library reported that the library is getting an extra holiday by closing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This prompted discussion from the board, as some believed the library board should have consulted with the Common Council before taking any action. City Manager Cameron Clapper mentioned that he will write a message to the library board to seek approval from the Common Council before making big decisions in the future. Councilmember Jim Allen voiced concern from the perspective of a taxpayer, and councilmember Patrick Singer noted that the library does not currently align with other city holidays, and there is a need for greater consistency.
