Fort Atkinson Reminds Public Of Safe Haven Laws

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department has released a reminder on the state’s Safe Haven laws. The law, enacted in April 2001, and also known as the infant relinquishment law, a person can, by law, leave their unharmed child less than 3 days old at a staffed fire station, with a law enforcement official, hospital member, or EMT without consequences. The subject does not have to leave their name unless the baby has been harmed, is more than 3 days old, or it is a forceful seizure of the child. The city of Fort Atkinson Fire Department has attached two links to its facebook pages, including the Safe Place for Newborns, and the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families.
