Fort Atkinson Police Asking For Bikes To Be Licensed

According to a press release from the City of Fort Atkinson, they are looking to curb the thefts of bicycles in the city. The city is offering $5 bike licenses that last for the duration of the bike’s life with the owner. There has been a decrease in bike licenses sold in recent years and increase in stolen bikes, many of which are unregistered. Police rely on a serial number for the bike to be recovered, and registering it will allow it to be identified anywhere in the US. It can also be used in an emergency to identify the rider. Unregistered bikes have a slim chance of ever being recovered and sometimes are sold for parts or recycled.
