Fire Truck Struck in Fort
A fire truck in Fort Atkinson was struck at an accident scene yesterday. According to a press release, at around 9:25 AM Monday morning, FAFD responded alongside Ryan Brothers ambulances and Jefferson County Sheriff’s officers to an accident on Highway 26 northbound near Highway 26 business. The accident involved a truck that overturned in the median, with 4 passengers and several head of cattle onboard. As traffic was moved to the outside lane, an approaching vehicle then lost control and struck the retaining wall, before hitting Squad 108, which was working on extrication of the cattle. The rescue truck was struck in the right rear corner and then the side, where the vehicle came to a rest. This caused additional fire units to respond and 26 north was closed. Fire officials say the rescue truck suffered around $40,000 in damage from the accident. It will remain in limited service, and officials from Appleton-based Pierce Fire Equipment will be contacted for a formal estimate. No injuries were reported.
