DNR Announces Changes to Camping Restrictions/COVID 19 Update

The Department of Natural Resources announced a few changes for campers at state parks starting on July 13th. Some of the changes include group camping will be allowed at outdoor sites with a capacity of 50 or fewer people, limited special events permitted with up to 50 people, firewood is now available at select state parks and the DNR will be placing camp hosts at state park campgrounds. Any event or reservation that was to be held before july 12th has been cancelled and any money will be refunded, reservations are required and you can make them online. Finally there will still be COVID 19 restrictions in place like open facilities like bathrooms will have posted capacity limits, indoor group camps remain closed and properties will have provisions for social distancing. The percentage of positive covid 19 tests went down Tuesday even after seeing a surge in the number of people tested according to the DHS. 4.7% or 606 of the 12,781 people who were tested in the st 24 hours came back positive which is down almost 3 percent from Sunday. 5 more people died due to complications from the virus bringing the total to 787 with 22,217 or 79% of people infected having made a full recovery. Rock County reported 11 new cases with 1 death, Jefferson County reported 2 new cases and no deaths and Walworth county reported 20 new positive cases with no deaths.
