Delavan Entertainment Venue Upset About COVID Relief

An entertainment venue in Delavan is miffed at its lack of COVID-19 grants. The Lake Geneva Regional News reports that the Dancing Horses Theatre in Delavan is contesting the distribution of the grant money, citing that it and other small entertainment venues were left in the dark. The theatre says they applied for a grant, but none of the allotted funds for entertainment venues were granted to them. The grant was funded by the Wisconsin Department of Administration through the federal CARES Act. 95 venues received anywhere between $4000 and $400,000, however 117 venues were deemed ineligible and disqualified for the grant money. Reasons for disqualification include submitting the wrong grant application, among others. Applications were given a pass/fail by six evaluators. The theatre says while they weren’t closed long, the majority of the theatre’s clientele comes from Illinois, and when the state locked down, it affected their finances. The theatre has started a GoFundMe to provide support until shows are scheduled to resume in February.
