City of Janesville Advising About Scam

The City of Janesville is warning its residents about a scam. In a press release from Tuesday afternoon, the City says that the Janesville Police Department has received multiple calls about scammers pretending to be from the City of Janesville, calling for residents' social security information. The release says the scammers are “spoofing”, which is a technique where the caller ID is falsified, to make it seem like the call is coming from the city of Janesville. The city reminds its residents that they will not call residents about social security, and they are telling residents to never give out personal information to those they do not know. If you think you’ve been scammed, or want to report a scam, call the non-emergency number at 608-757-2244.
