Beloit City Council Approves Grant Submission

Last night at the Beloit City Council meeting, they approved the submission of a grant application to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for a Local Assistance Land and Water Conservation Fund for replacement of the Turtle Island Playground Phase I. The Turtle Island Playground is inside Riverside Park. The playground was constructed in 1993 and replaced in 2009. The Turtle Island tree house has reached its useful life and is in need of replacement. Phase I includes the wooden tree house structure, log crawl through, and rope climbing amenities. They would be replaced with a large play structure, poured in place surfacing, site restoration, and landscaping. Future phases of the project could include shelters, water features, and landscaping. The grant would be in the amount of $700 thousand, and requires a local match of $350 thousand.
